To begin with, the market was in no shortage of sales portals for financial advisors. However, most advisor portals out there were dated in terms of the usability and user experience they offered. Zurich had bigger plans: they wanted a digital product beyond a POS-style system, and that is a handy tool that could keep up with advisors’ needs in everyday action, from sales preparation, closing a deal, to re-engaging with their customers. As Zurich’s business and design consultant, we accepted the challenge in designing an advisor portal truly designed for advisors.

First-to-market
The first step to solving a business problem is to identify painpoints for both the business and users.
Collective thinking thrives during workshops in product development. To get a clear picture of what the product was really like in different parties' minds, we ran 14 workshops in 3 weeks to discover business needs, user pain points, and user behaviors and gather the variegated expertise across teams to collaborate on the portal development task. Ultimately, we sought to create a product that sparks genuine interests of users.
The sweet spot for innovation is a combination of desirability, feasibility, and viability.
The sweet spot for innovation is a combination of desirability, feasibility, and viability.By defining the platform channel distribution, we were able to unravel the relationships between platforms to outline the navigational structure and flow for each platform.
Functional design modules were introduced to facilitate a more flexible buildout of content, mobile application, and web development and foster the sustainability and scalability of the portal.
Oftentimes in development, the final design could deviate from the ideal masterplan after rounds and rounds of revision. To avoid that, we create prototypes for users to validate if the design was up to their expectations and needs. Based on their thoughts, the team can make fast, informed de-risked decisions on the product because it was too further down in development.
